Sourendra Nath Chakraborty, the proud son of the traditional Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district, is the senior secretary from the government secretary to the secretary of the statistics and information management department. A notification in this regard has been issued by the senior recruitment-1 branch of the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday.
On January 30, 2016, Sourendra Nath Chakraborty was made the Secretary of the Department of Statistics and Information Management. Earlier, he was Additional Secretary of the Department under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. He also served as the National Project Director (NPD) of the UNDP-funded Upazila Governance Project (UZGP). He also served as the Joint Secretary in the Local Government Department.
Before serving as the Deputy Commissioner in Rangamati district, Sourendra Nath Chakraborty served as the Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Jute Department under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute in the government. He also served as Senior Assistant Secretary in the Secretariat of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.
He obtained his Masters degree with BA (Hons) from the Department of Political Science, Rajshahi University. He also holds an LL.B. from the same university. Degree.
Apart from formal studies, he has a special interest in the history, heritage, culture, geographical location, contemporary events, etc. of Bangladesh and he studies these subjects regularly.
Family traditionally, he is involved in various social service activities.
Sourendra Nath Chakraborty, a 1975 batch (8th batch) officer of Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration), started his career as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate on 15 February 1986 by joining the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Magura.
Later he held various posts at the field level including Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate, Assistant Commissioner (Land), First Class Magistrate, Upazila Executive Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati District, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka Division.
During his varied career at the field level, he held various posts in Magura, Rangpur, Panchagarh, Kishoreganj, Narail, Narayanganj, Rangamati and Dhaka districts.
He was born in 1971 in an aristocratic and traditional family of Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district. His father is Brajendra Nath Chakraborty and mother is Sabita Chakraborty.
He is survived by his wife Raktima Chakraborty Shelley and two children Shovon Chakraborty and Shaiv Chakraborty
